Following the visit to the Yamada Nursery and lunch, we visited a local Sake brewery.
Sake is the traditional Japanese alcoholic drink. It is made from fermented rice and it is also known as Japanese rice wine.
The owner very kindly gave us a tour of the brewery explaining the making process of Sake.
Unfortunately, the drinking age in Japan is strictly 20, so me, Marged and Carys were not allowed to taste different kinds of sake. Well...
The hanging globe of cedar leaves is called a sugitama (杉玉) which is a symbol of sake. So if you see this outside of a place, it means it is a sake brewery.
